Varishtha Pension Bima Yojana 2017 is approved by Union Cabinet

  • On 24th January 2017 the Union Cabinet which is presided by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave its post-facto approval for launching of Varishtha Pension Bima Yojana 2017.
  • The Varishtha Pension Bima Yojana 2017 is a part of Union Government’s commitment for the financial inclusion and social security.

India rejects attempts of EU, Canada for Global Investment Agreement

  • India, along with the countries like Brazil, Argentina and some other nations rejected an informal attempt of European Union (EU) and the country like Canada to work towards a global investment agreement at World Trade Organisation (WTO)-level.
  • The EU and Canada proposed agreement incorporates a contentious Investor-State Dispute Settlement (ISDS) mechanism.

US President Donald Trump signs executive order to pull US out of TPP

  • US President Donald Trump has finally signed an executive order to formally pull US out of the negotiating process of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), a mega trade deal of 12 Pacific Rim countries.
  •  TPP was known to be one of the major international trade initiatives of his predecessor Barack Obama aimed to set trade rules for the 21st century and bind US allies against growing Chinese economic clout.

 Anerood Jugnauth, Indian-origin Mauritius PM  resigns recently 

  •  On 23rd Jnauary 2017 Indian-origin Prime Minitser of Mauritius Anerood Jugnauth has resigned from his position.
  •  Anerood has officially handed his resignation to Mauritius President Ameenah Gurib Fakim. Though, he has been serving in his post since 2014.
  • Interesting news is this that he will be succeeded by his own son only i.e. Pravind Jugnauth.
  • Pravind is the well-known leader of the main political party of Mauritius Militant Socialist Movement (MSM).
