2016 ACM A M Turing Award won by  Tim Berners-Lee

  • Sir Tim Berners-Lee was honoured with the 2016 ACM A M Turing Award. Berners-Lee received the 2016 Turing Award "for inventing the World Wide Web, the first web browser and the fundamental protocols and algorithms allowing the Web to scale".

India's rank in Travel and Tourism Competitive Index of World Economic Forum - 40

  • The Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Index (TTCI) 2017 was released on 5th April 2017 by the World Economic Forum (WEF).
  •  India was ranked 40th among the 136 economies across the globe in the Index. India was at 52nd rank in 2015 and 65th in 2013.

First non-white judge at London Court  Anuja Ravindra Dhir of Indian-origin

  • Indian-origin Anuja Ravindra Dhir became the first non-white judge of the Old Bailey Court of London on 9th April 2017. 
  • The Old Bailey Court of London is the Central Criminal Court of London,that houses 15 judges including 10 men and five women.

Mukta Dutta Tomar has been appointed as India's Ambassador to Germany 

  • Mukta Dutta Tomar was appointed as India's Ambassador to Federal Republic of Germany on 7th April 2017
  • Mukta is a 1984 batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer.
  • Tomar is presently working as the Additional Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

Kulbhushan Jadhav sentenced to death in - Pakistan

  • Kulbhushan Jadhav, a former Indian Navy officer, was sentenced to death by a military court of Pakistan on 10th April 2017. 
  • He was accused of espionage and sabotage activities in Balochistan and Karachi of Pakistan.

Six agreements including cooperation in civil aviation security signed between - India-Australia

  • India and Australia signed 6 agreements to boost the bilateral cooperation between the two nations on 10th April 2017. 
  • The signed agreements include cooperation in combating international terrorism and trans-national organised crime. 
  • These agreements were signed during Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull’s four-day visit to India from 9th April to 12th April 2017.

Colson Whitehead's “Underground Railroad” wins - Pulitzer


  • Pulitzer Prize Administrator Mike Pride announced 2017 Pulitzer Prizes on 10th April 2017 in at Columbia University in New York. 
  • The awards were announced in 21 categories including include Letters, Drama & Music and Journalism.
