The youngest person to address Canadian Parliament - Malala
- The Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau announced on 3rd April 2017 that the youngest Nobel laureate, Malala Yousafzai, will be addressing the country’s parliament on 12th April 2017.
- The young Pakistani activist will also be receiving her honorary Canadian citizenship.
Five agreements with Bangladesh including Audio Visual Co-Production approved by - Union Cabinet
- The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved five agreements with Bangladesh including a pact in the field of judicial sector cooperation and on passenger cruise services on the coastal and protocol routes on 5th April 2017.
Tree-living crab species, Kani maranjandu found in - Kerala
- A group of researchers discovered a new species of long legged, tree-dwelling crabs in Western Ghats of Kerala. The species, named Kani maranjandu, are substantially different from other congeners.
- These species are named after the Kani tribe in Kerala. Below are the couple of imoportant findings which were published in The Journal of Crustacean Biology.
National Maritime Day observed in India on - 5th April
- India observed the 54th edition of the National Maritime Day on 5th April 2017. On the inaugural function at the Tuticorin Port, Port Trust chairman S Anantha Chandra Bose placed a wreath on the memorial for sailors who sacrificed their lives at sea.
Bitcoin as currency is officially recognized by - Japan
- Japan officially recognized bitcoin and digital currencies as legal money with effect from 1st April 2017.
- This step will facilitate integration of digital currency into legal banking system through regulatory scrutiny.
Raman Roy has been appointed as Chairman of NASSCOM for 2017-18
- The National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM) announced the appointmentof Raman Roy its Chairman for 2017-2018 on 5th April 2017. He will take new role from 6th April 2017.
- Roy is the Chairman and MD of Quatrro. Raman Roy has been a member of NASSCOM’s Executive Council and was the vice-chairman in 2016-17.
First Air services agreement between India and Georgia approved by Union Cabinet
- The Union Cabinet approved the signing of air services agreement (ASA) between India and Georgia on 5th April 2017.
- According to an official press release, the agreement will help in establishing air connectivity between the two countries and also contribute to the expansion of trade, investment, tourism and cultural exchange between the two.
- The cabinet meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Foundation stone of Multi-modal terminal on River Ganga in Jharkhand laid by PM Narendra Modi
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stones of several development projects including a multi-modal terminal and a four-lane bridge over River Ganga at Sahebganj in Jharkhand on 6th April 2017.
INS Shardul for surveillance in the Indian Ocean deployed by Indian Navy
- The Indian navy has deployed its warship Indian Naval Ship (INS) Shardul for two months in the South Indian Ocean to provide surveillance support in that region.
- This move has been made keeping in mind country's national objective of ensuring a safe and secure regional environment to allow unobstructed social and economic development in India and in the Indian Ocean Region.
