Satellite for high-precision positioning system launched by - Japan

  • Japan launched a satellite to help build a high-precision Geo-location system that will complement the US operated Global Positioning System (GPS) on 1st June 2017. 
  • The rocket carrying the Michibiki No. 2 satellite, H-IIA was launched from the Tanegashima space center in Kagoshima Prefecture, Southern Japan. 
  • The footage recorded by Japan’s Aerospace Exploration Agency confirmed the same.

 Nirupama Rao has been appointed public policy fellow to US think-tank 

  • Nirupama Rao,former Indian Ambassador to the United States has been appointed as the public policy fellow to a top American think-tank based in Washington. 
  • Rao would be working on Indo-China relationship on a project.

Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara resigned on - 1st June 2017

  • Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara resigned from his post on 1st June 2017. He is also the State Congress Committee chief. 
  • He resigned earlier during the day, as the Party High Command wanted him to resign and focus solely on party matters and on the preparation for the upcoming 2018 Assembly elections.

New glass frog species discovered in - Ecuador

  • A group of researchers have discovered a new species of glass frog, of the genus Hyalinobatrachium.

Dailong village declared Biodiversity Heritage Site - In Manipur

  • The Manipur Government declared Dailong village of Tamenglong district as a Biodiversity Heritage Site of the state in the last week of May 2017
  • . Kengoo Zuringla, Joint Secretary of Forest and Environment division issued a notification in this regard.

Stan Wawrinka beat Mischa Zverev to clinch - Geneva Open Men’s Singles title

  • Swiss top seed Stan Wawrinka successfully defended his Geneva Open Men’s Singles title with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory over Germany's Mischa Zverev on 27th May 2017. It is the 16th title of Wawrinka's career.

India and Spain signed seven Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) on - 31st May 2017

  • India and Spain signed seven Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) on 31st May 2017 including cyber security and technical cooperation in civil aviation.
  •  This MoUs were signed during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Spain.

Fastest growing economy tag slowdown after sharp growth for - India

  • India lost its fastest-growing major economy tag in the fourth quarter of the financial year (FY) 2016-17( January-March period), with the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth coming down to 6.1 percent compared with a provisional 7 percent in the previous quarter. he growth of 6.1 percent was even lower than China’s growth in the same period which was 6.9 percent.

Champions Trophy 2017 with an interactive game celebrated by - Google

  • Google marked the beginning of the eight-nation ICC Champions Trophy 2017 with an addictive doodle game on 1st June 2017. 
  • Google’s highly engaging game and interactive involves cricket (insects) on the batting side and snails in the bowling team.

  • The Global Day of Parents was observed on 1st June 2017. This gives an opportunity to appreciate all parents in all parts of the world for their selfless commitment to children and their lifelong sacrifice towards nurturing this relationship. 

Ramachandra Guha has been resigned as BCCI Administrator

  • On June 1st 2017, Ramachandra Guha resigned from the four-member Committee of Administrators of the Board of Control of Cricket in India. Guha gave personal reasons for his resignation. 
  • After his resignation, the Supreme Court asked Guha to file plea in registry which will be taken up in the court in July 2017. 
  • Guha’s resign came at a time when the Champions Trophy 2017 is about to kick start.
