Same-sex marriage approved by - German Parliament

  • The Parliament of Germany voted by a wide margin to legalise same-sex marriage in June 2017.
  • The parliament voted by 393 to 226 in favour of same-sex marriage on 30th June 2017.

140 years of Wimbledon Championship celebrated by - Google Doodle

  • Google rolled out a new doodle commemorating the 140th anniversary of the world’s oldest tennis tournament, Wimbledon Championship on 3rd July 2017.

Short range surface-to-air missile successfully test-fired by - India

  • India successfully test-fired indigenously developed quick reaction surface-to-air missile (QR-SAM) off the Odisha coast on 3rd July 2017. 
  • This short range missile with a strike range of 25km to 30 km was test fired from a truck-mounted canister launcher from the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur.

Germany beats Chile to win 2017 - FIFA Confederations Cup

  • Germany defeated Chile 1-0 in the final to clinch the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup on 2nd July 2017 in the tournament held in Russia as a prelude to the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
  • After this win, Germany took home their first Confederations Cup. 

Indian of the Year Award bagged by - Writer Preeti Shenoy

  • Writer Preeti Shenoy in the last week of June 2017 was honored with the Indian of the Year Award at a function organized in New Delhi. 
  • Shenoy was awarded by Brands Academy, one of the most reputed branding companies in India.

World’s longest submarine cable system launched by - Reliance Jio

  • Reliance Jio announced the launch of the Asia-Africa-Europe (AAE-1) submarine cable system on 29th June 2017. 
  • AAE-1 is expected to be the world’s longest 100Gbps technology-based submarine system.
  • The cable will be stretching from Marseille in France to Hong Kong, covering 25000 km and will have 21 cable landings across Asia and Europe.

PM Modi embarks on his two-nation tour to Israel and Germany on - 4th July 2017

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarked on a two-nation tour to Israel and Germany on 4th July 2017. 
  • On the first attempt of his visit, Modi will go to Israel on three-day tour where he will be holding talks with his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu on all matters of mutual interest.

Indian-Americans Shantanu Narayen and Vivek Murthy honoured with Great Immigrants Award 

  • Two Indian-Americans, Adobe Chief Shantanu Narayen and former US Surgeon General Vivek Murthy, are among 38 immigrants to be honored with the Great Immigrants Award on 4th July 2017. 
  • They will be honoured for their role in helping advance the country's culture, society and economy on the Independence Day of the United States of America.

Madhya Pradesh sets new record by planting 6 Crore saplings in - Just 12 hours

  • The Madhya Pradesh government undertook a massive plantation drive on 2nd July 2017 to save the environment and for the conservation of the Narmada River. 
  • According to official sources,more than six Crore saplings were planted in 24 districts of Narmada basin in just 12 hours.

Eastbourne International Women’s Singles title won by - Karolina Pliskova

  • Czech tennis player Karolina Pliskova defeated Danish Caroline Wozniacki in straight sets to win the Eastbourne International Women’s Singles title on 1st July 2017. 
  • Pliskova scripted a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Wozniacki in just 78 minutes.

Telangana IPS Officer Mahesh Bhagwat conferred - Trafficking in Persons Report Heroes Award 2017


  • The US State Department conferred the 2017 Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Report Heroes Award to an IPS officer from Telangana, Mahesh Muralidhar Bhagwat, who currently serves as Rachakonda Police Commissioner.
