Niti Aayog Vice-Chairman, Arvind Panagariya resigned on 1st August 2017


  • Arvind Panagariya, Vice-Chairman of Niti Aayog announced his resignation from the post on 1st August 2017. 
  • Panagariya has revealed that he will return to the field of academics in the US. His last working day in office would be 31st August 2017.
Non-Cooperation Movement Day – August 1, 2017
  • The Non-cooperation movement was launched on 1st August 1920 by the Indian National Congress (INC) under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi.
  •  It signified a new chapter in the history of Indian freedom struggle.
Rahul, Manu-Sumeeth clinch titles at Lagos Open
  • Indian shuttler C Rahul Yadav and men's doubles pair of Manu Attri and B Sumeeth Reddy clinched the men's singles and men's doubles title respectively at Lagos International challenge in Nigeria.
Mukesh Ambani Becomes Asia’s Second-Richest Person
  • Mukesh Ambani has elbowed past Li Ka-shing to become Asia’s second-richest man as investors rallied behind his efforts to arm India’s poor with cheap data-loaded phones. 
  • The chairman of Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) has added $12.1 billion to his wealth in 2017, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
World's longest pedestrian suspension bridge launched by - Switzerland
  • Switzerland is now home to the world's longest suspension footbridge . 
  • The Charles Kuonen Suspension Bridge has broken all the record with its length of 1621 feet and height of 279 feet making it the longest bridge in the world.
  •  The bridge is named after Charles Kuonen who is a psychologist and winery co-owner.
New Trade and Transit agreement between India and Bhutan 
  • The new bilateral Agreement on Trade, Commerce and Transit between India and Bhutan came into force on 29th July 2017 aiming to strengthen the bilateral relations between both the countries.
  • The Agreement provides for a free trade regime between the territories of Bhutan and India. It also provides for a duty-free transit of Bhutan merchandise for trade with third countries.
Sameer Garde named Cisco president for India, SAARC region
  • Tech giant Cisco has named former Philips Healthcare executive, Sameer Garde as president for its India and SAARC operations. He has succeeded Dinesh Malkani.
Lt. Gen Abhay Krishna appointed as Chief of Eastern Command 
  • Lt. General Abhay Krishna, who owns extensive service experience of the Northeast India, was appointed as the Chief of the Indian Army's Eastern Command on 31st July 2017. 
Trump Awarded First Medal of Honor to Vietnam Army Medic
  • An Army medic from Michigan who risked his life multiple times to rescue Vietnam War comrades is the first person to receive the Medal of Honor from President Donald Trump in Washington.

  • Mohun Bagan conferred former club captain and coach Subrata Bhattacharya with the prestigious Mohun Bagan Ratna Award at the club's annual day program in Kolkata on 29th July 2017.
US tests missile-defence system after North Korea missile launch 
  • The United States (US) tested the Terminal High Altitude Area Defence (THAAD) system in Alaska on 30th July 2017 by launching a ballistic missile over the Pacific Ocean. 
  • The missile-defence system test came after North Korea conducted an Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) test.

  • Sebastian Vettel of Germany and the Ferrari driver won the Hungarian Formula One Grand Prix at the Hungaroring in Mogyorod on 30th July 2017.
Eminent Dhrupad singer Ustad SayeeduddinDagar passes away
  • Ustad Hussain Sayeeduddin Dagar, a classical vocalist and one of the leading exponents of Dhrupad tradition, passed away on 31st July 2017 due to a brief illness in Pune.
Airtel Payment Bank ties up with HPCL for ATM services
  • Airtel Payments Bank, India’s first payments bank has announced a strategic partnership with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) on 1st of August 2017.
Supreme Court bans use of five metals in Firecrackers
  • The Supreme Court of India announced on 31st July 2017 a ban on the use of five metals including arsenic,lithium, mercury, lead and antimony in firecrackers, deeming them as harmful for the environment.
Constitution 123rd Amendment Bill passed with amendment in Rajya Sabha
  • On July 31, 2107, Constitution 123rd Amendment Bill, 2017 for setting up of a National Commission for Backward Classes was passed by Rajya Sabha after dropping an important clause.
