Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar announces 24-hour power supply for 1,000 villages

  • Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Sunday said an additional 1,000 villages in the state will get round-the-clock electricity supply from August 15. 
  • The chief minister said he would visit every district in the state over a period of two days in order to review development works and address people’s grievances.

 S Aparna is appointed as ED in World Bank

  • Senior bureaucrat S Aparna, presently Principal Secretary to Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, has been appointed as an Executive Director in the World Bank in the US. 
  • Aparna, a 1988-batch IAS officer of the Gujarat cadre, has been appointed to the post for three years, an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training  said.

Kashmiri doctor helps gene editing of human embryos

  • For the first time, genetically modified human embryos have been developed in the US and Kashmir-born doctor Sanjeev Kaul has played a lead role in this breakthrough. 

 Kenyan Rose Chelimo wins women’s marathon

  • Rose Chelimo, a Bahraini who switched allegiance from her Kenyan homeland, sprinted away from her former compatriot Edna Kiplagat to win the women’s marathon at the World Athletics Championships after a tactical battle and exciting finish on Sunday.

Netherlands beat Denmark to win women’s Euro title

  • Striker Vivianne Miedema scored twice Sunday as the Netherlands beat Denmark 4-2 to win its first Women’s European Championship title and set off a huge party among thousands of orange-clad fans.
