2016 T S Eliot Prize for Poetry is won by Jacob Polley
- On 16th January 2017 poet Jacob Polley won the 2016 T.S. Eliot Prize for his collection ‘Jackself’.
- This award ceremony was organized at the Wallace Collection Gallery in London.
- Polley is known to be the 23rd winner of the prestigious USD 24000 award.
IMF downgrades India’s GDP growth forecast to 6.6%
- On 16th January 2017 the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has released the World Economic Outlook Update 2016 in Washington DC, the USA.
- The update estimated the global growth at 3.1% in the last year 2016. Also the growth forecast is in line with the October 2016 forecast.
- Also with regard to India, the update projected India’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth rate at 6.6% in 2016-17 against its earlier estimate of 7.6%.
What identified as ‘missing element’ in Earth’s core – Silicon
- Scientists from Tohoku University in Japan have claimed that Silicon (Si) is one and only the ‘missing element’ in the Earth’s core.
- With the help of this discovery, we can better understand how our world has been formed.
- According to scientists, silicon likely makes up a significant proportion of Earth’s core after its major constituents iron and nickel. It was missing element in the deep interiors of our planet that has eluded us for decades.
