Malabar Exercise 2017 begun by India , Japan and - US

  • India, Japan and the United States have began the joint naval exercise Malabar 2017 on 7th July 2017.
  • Aircraft, warships, submarines, and personnel from India, Japan and the US will be participating in the Malabar exercise in the Bay of Bengal from 7th July to 17th.

Sanjiv Goenka renominated as the Chairman of IIT Kharagpur for - 3 years

  • Sanjiv Goenka was recently selected as the Chairman of the Board of Governors at the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur for next three years. 
  • President Pranab Mukherjee nominated him. He previously served as the Chairman of the premier institute from 2002 to 2007.

West Bank city of Hebron as World Heritage Site declared in Danger by - UNESCO

  • The United Nations Educational, Scientific, Cultural Organization (UNESCO) declared West Bank city of Hebron a heritage site on 7th July 2017, an issue which triggered a new Israeli-Palestinian clash.

Student-scientist connect program JIGYASA launched by - Union Government

  • The Union Government launched JIGYASA program, a student- scientist connect program on 6th July 2017
  • . In this regard, Union Ministry of Science & Technology and Union Ministry of Human Resource Development signed a MoU.

India declares itself free from Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza H5N1 and H5N8

  • India declared itself free from Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (H5N1 and H5N8) on 6th July 2017 and notified the same to World Organization for Animal Health (OIE), an intergovernmental body takes care of the coordination, support and promotion of animal disease control.

EPFO inked agreement with 5 banks to - Collect PF dues

  • The Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) inked an agreement with four private banks and Bank of Baroda to collect provident fund dues from employers and payments to its subscribers on 5th July 2017

 Saima Wazed Hossain has been appointed as WHO Goodwill Ambassador for Autism in South Asia

  • Saima Wazed Hossain was appointed as the WHO's Goodwill Ambassador for Autism in the South-East Asia region on 6th July 2017.
  •  In the last one year while championing for the cause of autism for WHO, Hossain facilitated the 'Thimphu Declaration' on autism and other neuro developmental disorders at an international conference in April 2017 in Bhutan.

Great Barrier Reef omitted by from List of World Heritage in Danger by - UNESCO

  • The World Heritage Committee decided not to include the Great Barrier Reef in the List of World Heritage in Danger during its annual meeting in Poland in July 2017.
  • The Committee voted to endorse the Australian Government’s Reef 2050 Plan that includes several measures designed to manage and protect the ecosystem.

India's ranks in 2017 Global Cyber security Index - 23rd among 165 nations

  • India ranked a high 23rd out of 165 nations in the 2017 Global Cyber security Index (GCI), a global index that measures the nations commitment across the world to cyber security.
  • The second Global Cyber security Index was released by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the UN telecommunications agency on 5th July 2017.

Panchsheel Pact between China and - India

  • Panchsheel Pact, also known as Five Principles of Peaceful Co-existence, was in news recently in the months of June-July 2017 as China accused India of trampling on the Panchsheel principles by allegedly entering into the Chinese territory. 
  • Both the nations are engaged in a diplomatic standoff in the Doklam or Donglang area near the Sikkim-Tibet-Bhutan tri-junction from the last 20 days after a Chinese army's construction party came to build a road in that region.

United Nations to adopt treaty prohibiting nuclear weapons 


  • The United Nations announced on 6th July 2017 that the Member States will adopt a legally-binding treaty prohibiting nuclear weapons.
  •  The treaty was be adopted on 7th July 2017 and is the first multilateral nuclear disarmament treaty to be concluded in more than 20 years.
