  •  Indian professional boxer Vijender Singh outslugged his Chinese opponent Zulpikar Maimaitiali to retain the WBO Asia Pacific Super Middleweight title and win the WBO Oriental Super Middleweight title.

National Handloom Day observed on August 7 2017

  • National Handloom Day is being observed on 7th August 2017 to encourage people to use hand-made loom in the country. 
  • n Assam, the main event of the National Handloom Day is being celebrated in Guwahati. Chief Minister Sarbanand Sonowal, Minister of State for Textiles Ajay Tamta attended the program. 

Economist Rajiv Kumar to be new Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog

  • Noted economist Rajiv Kumar will be the next Vice-Chairman of NITI Aayog, which is a think-tank that replaced the Planning Commission. 
  • He will succeed Arvind Panagariya, who had recently quit as Vice Chairman of Niti Aayog.

Exoplanet with glowing water atmosphere detected by - NASA’s Hubble

  • NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope has discovered the strongest evidence to date for a stratosphere on a planet outside solar system, WASP-121b. 
  • The stratosphere is an atmosphere layer in which temperature raises with higher altitudes.
