Rs 6000-cr tractor loan settlement scheme announced by - SBI


  • The State Bank of India (SBI) has announced a one-time farm loan settlement scheme of Rs 6000 crore mainly on tractors. This Scheme is valid until 31st March 2017. Bank also urged farmers to contact their branch for details and benefits.

First fluorescent frog found in Argentina

  • The world’s first fluorescent frog (Hypsiboas punctatus) is discovered by a group of scientists near Santa Fe in Argentina. The frog gives a muted palette of greens, yellows and reds under normal light, but emits a bright blue and green glow in the dark. 

Commonwealth Day observed by Commonwealth countries on 

  • 52 countries of the Commonwealth observed The Commonwealth Day on 13th March 2017 with the theme 'A peace-building Commonwealth'.
  • This year's theme is a natural follow-on from 2016 theme 'An Inclusive Commonwealth'.

World Consumer Rights Day observed on - 15th March 2017

  • World Consumer Rights Day is being observed on 15th March 2017 with the theme 'Building a Digital World Consumers can Trust’. 
  • The day aims to raise awareness about the basic rights of consumers. Basic rights of the consumers should be respected and protected. Participants protest against the market abuse and social injustices.

Manohar Parrikar sworn in as - Goa Chief Minister

  •  Manohar Gopalkrishna Prabhu Parrikar, a BJP candidate, was sworn in as the 13th Chief Minister of Goa on 14th March 2017.
  •  However, within 15 days of taking the oath as CM, Parrikar has to prove his majority by convening an Assembly session. 
  • Parrikar will be serving Goa as the Chief Minister for the third time. He just resigned as the Union Defence Minister to take up this new post on 13th March 2017.

MoU signed between FTII and Canon - To promote short courses in Film & Television

  • The Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune and Canon India Private Limited signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 15th March 2017 to promote film education through short-term courses across several towns and cities in the country.

  • Congress leader Captain Amarinder Singh has sworn in as the 26th Chief Minister (CM) of Punjab on 16th March 2017. 
  • Alongside, Navjot Singh Sidhu swore in as a Cabinet Minister of Punjab.
